Just been accepted into the new Women in Watercolor annual exhibition. It’s for members only, and I’m in the company of women artists from all over the world. My painting, Storm Over Skellig Michael, depicts the wild waves and ranging winds of a storm crashing over the island of Skellig Michael, just off the Kerry coast. It is famous for being home to a 9th century monastery – but, lately, also famous for appearing in Star Wars.
Storm Over Skellig Michael, varnished watercolour on canvas, 40 x 40 cm, framed.
The painting is a bit more abstract and free than most others in the exhibition, but it came to me all in a rush with the sound of the wind and the crying gulls. I hope it makes the viewer feel the wild elements and the loneliness of the island, out there in the Atlantic. Sometimes, it disappears into the mists like the Isle of the Blessed: it might be made of myth; it might never have been there at all.
Well deserved, your works are world class.
